All at Ballinglen are devastated at the passing of our Founder, colleague, mentor, and friend, Margo Dolan, who died peacefully at home on February 27 2025. Our deepest sympathy goes to her brother Tom, nieces, nephews, close family and friends.
Margo was remarkable - kind, witty, humble and an exceptional person. Her love of art was unwavering and she dedicated her career to the arts. She was highly regarded and respected by so many, yet if complimented on her achievements she was always unobtrusive and modest. Her legacy will continue through the countless lives she has impacted, and all of us at Ballinglen will strive to honour her memory and uphold her commitment to the transformative power of art. We are thinking of her family, friends and all who knew her. Margo will be missed by us all and this loss will be felt for a very long time.
Since 1968, Margo worked in museum education and non profit institutions and galleries devoted to modern and contemporary work. In 1984 she and her husband, Peter Maxwell, founded the internationally known Dolan/Maxwell Inc specialising in works of art from the 1930's to the present. In 1992 following a holiday to Ireland they founded The Ballinglen Arts Foundation Ltd in Ballycastle, County Mayo. In May 2018, The Royal Hibernian Academy awarded its Gold Medal to Margo Dolan and Peter Maxwell for their significant contribution to the arts in Ireland.
