When is the deadline? There is no deadline, we accept applications all year round.
When are applications reviewed? Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, twice yearly.
Will I hear from you to confirm you have received my application? Yes, you will, but it may not be immediately when you submit your application as this is a manual process, you should recieve an email within a few days of submitting your application.
When will I be notified if my application is successful or not? Applications are reviewed twice annually, so you may not hear from us for a few months. Rest assured, we will let you know if you have been successful or not as soon as we can.
If unsuccessful, can I apply again? Yes, you can apply as many times as you like.
How much does the residency cost? There is no accommodation cost for your first residency with us. You will need to pay for your travel expenses and we will charge a small fee for internet and laundry - approx. €20 each. After your first residency, you then become a Ballinglen Fellow, and you will need to pay for your accommodation/studio space for future residencies. If you are an international artist not from Ireland, you will also need to pay €50 to apply for a residency. You will need to pay this when you fill out the application form.
Will I need to donate a piece of artwork? On your first residency with us you will be asked to give one - or more at your discretion - important finished work of art for the Ballinglen Permanent Collection. An acquisitions committee of visual art professionals will make the selection. This takes place when you have completed a body of work made during your Fellowship or after as the work continues to develop - sometimes, this takes a year or two.
How big do my images need to be in my application? The total size of your application should not exceed more than 10MB, this means that each image you upload should be approx. 1MB if you upload 10 images.
What do you look for in an artist? When you apply we ask that you upload your CV and a biography. We also ask that you give us a clear and consise representation of your work, so choose your image submission carefully. We want to review applications where the artwork is authentic, and true to the artist.
