“Abstracting Ireland through Paint" will immerse you in the beauty and mystery of Ireland through abstract painting. This workshop is for artists with prior painting experience who are seeking to deepen their painting practice — both inwardly in terms of inner consciousness and expression and outwardly in the formal and technical qualities of the work itself. You will be challenged to loosen up, trust your intuition and expand approaches towards your personal vision, drawing from the local landscape as well as Irish poetry, music and mythology for inspiration.
Ballinglen offers full access to a well-lit studio with individual workspaces, a library with hundreds of art books and the Ballinglen Museum of Contemporary Art where you can view curated exhibitions of original artwork.
Emphasis in this workshop will be on the use of water media on paper to include watercolor, acrylic, gouache, ink and mixed media drawing materials. We will focus on quick studies, daily color and composition exercises and concentrated time to develop your own work. There will be a visual presentation on a variety of approaches by Irish and international artists, communal meals, optional walks to the sea. One day will be set aside for a class tour of local historic and prehistoric sites along the wildly stunning coastline.
